Cryptocurrencies
Cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for secure and private transactions; it’s proof of fraud and counterfeiting. Unlike traditional currencies, cryptocurrencies are not issued or controlled by a central authority like a government or bank.
Instead, they are created and managed by decentralized computer networks using blockchain technology, which is a public ledger for all transactions.
The first and most famous cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, which was introduced in 2009 by an anonymous individual or group under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.
Since then, thousands of alternative cryptocurrencies or “altcoins” have been created, each with its own features and use cases. Cryptocurrencies can be used for online purchases, investments, and remittances.
They have gained popularity for financial inclusion, privacy, and autonomy but have raised concerns over their use in illegal activities, market volatility, and regulatory issues.
